Born in 1983 in Gdańsk, Poland, Zuzanna Olowska Hope grew up immersed in art, surrounded by an intensely creative family, including renowned names such as Paulina Olowska and Krystyna Suchwallo.

She studied Art and Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in GdaÅ„sk (2007–2011).

Zuzanna specializes in traditional oil painting and drawing, while also working with photography and design. Her artistic career has taken her across borders working with clients in Portugal, Poland, Spain, Germany, England, the UAE, and the USA.

From 2012 to 2015, Zuzanna worked in Shoreditch, London, as a mural painter, interior designer, graphic designer, and art consultant.

In 2016, she co-founded Division Zero, an alternative art gallery in Porto, where she exhibited her work and curated shows alongside a collective of local artists until 2018.

In collaboration with the Faculdade de Belas Artes at the University of Porto, Zuzanna hosted an art retreat based around her farm near Amarante, concluding with a final exhibition at Lugar de Desenho, Fundação Júlio Resende, Porto (2018).

On May 28, 2022, Zuzanna established the MUSO Art Gallery & Studio in Amarante. Dedicated to promoting international artists across diverse mediums, MUSO also aims to build bridges between various art forms—visual arts, poetry, music, and more.

As curator of MUSO Art Gallery, and with support from the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum in Amarante and Faculdade de Belas Artes at the University of Porto, Zuzanna created the MUSE International Art Competition, paying homage to the poet Teixeira de Pascoaes. The competition’s final exhibition was held at the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso Museum, accompanied by a special catalogue featuring Pascoaes’ poetry translated into English for the first time (2022).

Recent Exhibitions:

  • Solo exhibition at CCBombarda, Rua Miguel Bombarda for Inaugurações Simultâneas (April 2017)

  • Live painting performance at CCBombarda for Inaugurações Simultâneas (May 2017)

  • Group exhibition at Miguel Costa Cabral & Associados, Porto (May 2019)

  • Group exhibition at Casa da Granja Museum, Amarante (December 2022)

  • Group exhibition Vozes da Paisagem | Voices of the Landscape at Faculdade de Belas Artes, Universidade do Porto (December 2023)

  •

Zuzanna continues to host oil painting and drawing workshops at MUSO Art Gallery and plein air classes in the scenic natural surroundings of Amarante.

Her work is inspired by her observations of the world around her: the simplicity of nature’s rules and humanity’s place within them. Exploring themes ranging from brute realism and symbolism to memories inspired by recurring dreams, Zuzanna’s art is a deeply personal reflection of her connection with life, nature, and imagination.

Artist statement.

Love is an atavism, but I like to feel feral.

I take my inspiration from observing my surroundings and I make sure to surround myself with things which inspire me: the simplicity of nature's rules, and humanity's place within them. I’m exploring everything from brute realism, symbolism, through to memories from recurring dreams.
